Assistants
An assistant (the app also calls them agents) is a saved setup you chat with instead of a plain model. It has its own personality and goals, a base model, its own tools and skills, its own memory, and it can run automations on a schedule and show up in Slack. The built-in CoChat assistant is the one you talk to by default; you can build as many others as you like.
The Assistants page
Section titled “The Assistants page”Click Assistants in the sidebar. You’ll see My assistants (ones you own) and Shared with me (ones colleagues have invited you to). Each card shows the assistant’s avatar, name, description, base model and the first few tools it has enabled, plus a Start Chat button. Hover a card for Pin to sidebar, which gives the assistant its own entry in the sidebar for quick access.
Click the card itself to open the assistant’s page, where you set it up (see Setting up an assistant).
Creating an assistant
Section titled “Creating an assistant”Click New Agent. The form asks for:
| Section | What to fill in |
|---|---|
| Identity | A name (required), a short description, and optionally an avatar image. |
| Personality & Goals | Personality: who the assistant is and what it’s optimising for — its role, communication style, things to watch out for. Goals: what it’s working toward. A few sentences is plenty; the assistant’s responsibilities use them as context. |
| Behavior | Base model (or Auto), Creativity (a slider from Precise to Wild), Reasoning depth (Quick / Thoughtful / Deep) and Autonomy (see below). |
Click Create Assistant. Tools, skills and channels are connected afterwards, on the assistant’s page.
Autonomy
Section titled “Autonomy”This controls what the assistant does when one of its scheduled responsibilities finds something:
- Just watch — surfaces insights only; never does work for you.
- Ask first (default) — drafts every action so you can approve or discard it from Pulse.
- Act on its own — completes work and posts results. Actions that go to external services are still drafted for your review.
An assistant never acts on its own between responsibilities. If you want it to look at something on a schedule, add a responsibility with that schedule — there is no background “activity level” any more.
Templates
Section titled “Templates”Click Browse Templates for ready-made assistants you can copy and adjust. There are around twenty, grouped by category:
- Productivity — Morning Briefing, Weekly Review Coach, Inbox Triage, Meeting Prep & Recap
- Engineering — Code Reviewer, PR Stall Watcher, On-Call Assistant
- Sales & Outreach — Lead Researcher, Follow-Up Cadence
- Customer Support — Customer Support, Ticket Summarizer
- Content & Writing — Writing Partner, Social Media Drafter, Content Calendar Manager, Content & SEO Writer
- Operations — Project Coordinator, Business OS
- Research & Analysis — Research Analyst, Industry News Digest, Data Analyst
- Personal — Daily Journal
Use this template creates a new assistant you own with the template’s personality, reasoning and creativity settings, plus its bundled automations. The automations arrive switched off so you can review their schedules before anything runs. You connect your own integrations afterwards — templates never include credentials.
Starting a chat
Section titled “Starting a chat”Three ways:
- Start Chat on the assistant’s card or page — opens a new chat with that assistant.
- The model picker in the composer — your assistants are listed under My Assistants.
- Pin the assistant to the sidebar and click it there.
The public directory
Section titled “The public directory”Explore → Agents is a public gallery of assistants people have published, searchable by name and category, with a Featured row of the most installed. Open one to see its personality, goals, behaviour settings, automations and which integrations it uses, then click Use this agent to get your own copy. Only the persona is copied — the original owner’s tools, memory, automations and credentials never travel; you connect your own.
To publish one of yours, see Sharing an assistant and Slack.
Limits
Section titled “Limits”There’s no limit on how many assistants you can create. The limit that matters is on enabled automations, which depends on your plan — see Plans and limits.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- The default CoChat assistant can be edited (its base model stays on Auto) but not deleted.
- You can’t delete an assistant that still has automations assigned to it — move or delete them first.
- Duplicate (from the assistant’s More actions menu) makes an independent private copy called “name (Copy)”. Tool connections aren’t copied.
